We were delighted to learn that our three-year project for the City of Camden Office of the Municipal Clerk won the 2024 Preservation Education Award from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia for the City of Camden Heritage Tourism Interactive Touchscreen Display Wall. The award was presented at a gala event on June 5, 2024, at Vie on North Broad Street, a special event venue. Learn more about the annual awards.

The City of Camden Heritage Tourism Interactive Touch Screen Display Wall installed in the elevator lobby of City Hall in Camden measures eight feet long by forty-two inches high. The digital history project features a beautiful hand-drawn contemporary mural by local artist Donna Backues, depicting forty-nine important people, places, and events across 350 years of the city of Camden History. When visitors touch a person or location on the mural, they are met with an onscreen popup that shows a historic photo or illustration plus a brief description of the person, place, or event.

In 2023, a Camden County base map was added to the touch wall to identify 51 Camden County historic sites and history organizations associated with the Camden County History Alliance (CCHA). In anticipation of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War in 2026, 33 Camden County battle and skirmish sites were added to the touch wall.

We learned recently that the City of Camden website (https:// history.ci.camden.nj.us)  which has the same history content as the Interactive Touch Screen display wall, has had more than 400,000 visitors in the last year alone. We were so excited to receive this award this year. Last year the same project won the David Knights New Preservation Initiative Award from Preservation New Jersey, the statewide preservation organization.
