Work continues on Camden County Heritage Tourism Plan
Camden County Historical Society, Camden NJ
The first quarter of 2018, we visited with 17 of the historic sites participating in the Camden County History Alliance to discuss what they are planning for Camden County History Week, scheduled from October 15 to 21 this fall. These visits were eye opening and confirmed that only eight of the sites open to the public have staff while volunteers entirely run the majority. We saw some extraordinary volunteer dedication and the many types of educational programming they already provide for visitors. As part of the project we will be producing handsome rack cards, as well as a four-color heritage tourism map and guide of the history organizations in the county to encourage visitors to see multiple historic sites that are thematically related. We are also working on a compilation of all the activities and events for Camden County History Week organized as a passport. Our newsletter with the event listings for all 46 organizations was such a hit that we are now sending it monthly. The Camden County Heritage Tourism Plan is being funded by a grant from the New Jersey Historic Trust’s Historic Site Management Program to the Camden County Historical Society. Updated 1-2022
