Heritage Tourism at the Olde Stone House Village Sewell NJ

Olde Stone House Village Washington Township NJ

This spring 2018 the New Jersey Historic Trust fully funded the Historic Site Management Plan application that we prepared for an Assessment of the Heritage Tourism Potential of the Olde Stone House Village in Washington Township, NJ. This grant will complete an informational brochure for the Olde Stone House Village and provide ideas to maximize the potential of the Olde Stone House Village as a heritage visitor destination. The project will also help the Washington Township Historic Preservation Commission to increase its organizational capacity, so it can produce new programming and visitor materials, and promote the Olde Stone House Village to visitors now and in the near-term future.

We will review the site’s interpretation and history related events to document historical facts and people who lived or worked on the site. We will use the National Register nomination and other historic research already undertaken about the historic buildings on the site. The research may or may not substantially change how docents interpret the site, which reenactors or vendors are invited to these events, what plants and vegetables are harvested in the kitchen garden, and how the workings of the Olde Stone House Village can more accurately represent documented historic activities, the real people who lived and worked at the site, and daily activities at the Olde Stone House. Our report will discuss current conditions at the site and make recommendations for improvements for this all volunteer organization. Learn more about the Olde Stone House Village from their Facebook page.  See our final report here.   See our general interest brochure here.   Up date 1-2022.
