Bylaw Reviews for Three Organizations
Throughout our 17 plus years of consulting with nonprofits, we have found that no charitable organization willingly revises their bylaws-- unless it is absolutely necessary!. This spring and summer we worked with three organizations that wanted to update their bylaws to reflect current organizational realities.
The 64.6 Downtown organization in Fort Smith AR was making a transition toward affiliation as a full time Main Street organization with Main Street Arkansas. Their bylaws needed a tune up to mirror what their state coordinating program required. The new Board of Directors approved them without hesitation.
Another organization needing bylaw changes was the Morris County NJ Historic Preservaiton Trust, a long-standing regional preservation advocacy organization. Their organization was about to accept the donation of a substantial endowment and a house to use as their headquarters. Their bylaws needed review and changes to reflect on these new opportunities. We also helped them focus on strategic planning matters too (see story below).
Finally, we worked with the Wynne Downtown Revitalization in AR, a startup downtown organization. Their all-volunteer organization wanted to revise their bylaws to assure that they met the criteria for eventual acceptance into the Main Street Arkansas program. Their board has gathered a great group of volunteers together to put on events and other downtown activities.
